East Side Austin: With Kids

In my fifteen plus years living in Austin, I've lived in almost every part of the city. Once I had my kids I started choosing neighborhoods based on kid-friendly ammenities, greenspaces, and proximity to the things we used with any regularity. Do your kids hate the car? Mine did, too, when they were little so stroller strides were a must.

One of my favorite parts of Austin to live with kids is the east side. Now, ten years ago (ahem, five years ago), east Austin was relatively unsafe for growing familes; however, the east side is now one of Austin's hot spots! Home buyers can find everything from a fixer-upper, adjacent lots for a dream home, new builds in Mueller or Easton Park, or a cute little bungalow with personality for days.

But, outside the ease of finding your dream home in east Austin, recent developments and fabulous childcare options make this one of the best spots to settle for those relocating to Austin. My favorite spots for kids in east Austin:

  • Thinkery
  • Lick Ice Cream
  • Cherrywood Coffeehouse
  • Sparkle Park
  • Los Amiguitos Escuela
  • duck pond at Mueller park
  • playgrounds galore!
  • Sour Duck
  • Rosewood neighborhood park
  • Mueller Farmer's Market
  • Roy G Guerrero park, secret beach
  • Bird Bird Biscuit

Austin is full of places to eat and drink that are kid friendly, but the above places on the east side really cater to growing families. Reach out to me to discuss your family's unique needs [email protected] 512-680-1671
