Best Schools in Austin

When I'm working with clients relocating to Austin, the most common "want" I hear from them is, "We'd like to be near the best schools". So, lets break it down. As a mom of two boys and a former educator myself, I know a thing or two about schools.

As far as school districts go, AISD doesn't rank highly; however, there are schools within AISD that are highly sought after. Kiker and Casis are the top elementary schools in AISD. In order to be zoned to Kiker, you'll need to live in Circle C (78739 zip code). In order to be zoned to Casis, you'll pay the high prices associated with Tarrytown and there may be 1-2 streets in Clarksville that are within the boundaries. Ask your realtor to set the boundaries of hi/her search to zone to these schools if you wish, although you'll have far less inventory to choose from.

Outside of the Austin city limits, the top schools district is (and likely always will be) Eanes ISD. Westlake, Lost Creek and Rollingwood (78746) are zoned to Eanes.

The next closest would be Dripping Springs ISD, and if you don't mind being WAY outside of Austin if your job allows, Liberty Hill ISD, Leander ISD, and Lake Travis ISD are next in line.

If you're able to afford a private school, Austin is FULL of options! You can choose your home freely without having to consider school zones. Austin also offers loads of charter schools and alternative education options like IDEA Public Schools, KIPP Academy, NYOS, Magellan International, and Austin Discovery School. Personally, I'm a huge fan of Austin Waldorf School, but it's not a fit for everyone and its difficult to get into. Regents private school is excellent if you're a faith based family.

Reach out at [email protected] and let me know the type of education that's important to you and your family. I'll help you choose what part of town makes sense and a neighborhood that's right for you and your family.

Good luck in your search!
